Dear Broad Street PTO members; Welcome to PTO Updates!
As you know, Tuesday, 5/12/09 was our PTO Board elections. I'm very pleased to announce our newly elected board for the 2009-2010 school year.
Lori Gilcreast is still our commander-in chief! As president of the Broad Street Parent-Teacher Organization, Lori continues to demonstrate the kind of energy and focus needed to organize programs, events and fund-raising with our large group of volunteers. Thank you, Lori, for choosing to lead us through another great year!
Jo-Ann Archambault is returning as our Vice President in charge of committees! Jo-Ann has shown herself to be the one to go to when you have a problem. We have really appreciated her hard work and are excited to work with her again next year. Thanks, Jo-Ann!
Denise Camire is also returning as our treasurer. Denise has kept our books down to the penny and we are grateful for her expertise in accounting. As a non-profit organization, our financials are open to all members and Denise has made sure the information is clear and available to all. Thank you, Denise.
Michelle Henninger is our NEW SECRETARY! Michelle has been helping at many of the events and creating flyers for the PTO. Now she is ready to step in and help run our organization. Thank you, Michelle, for volunteering to be on the board. We are excited to work with you!
The PTO board elects the Volunteer Coordinator. Next year, we will have returning Coordinators, Allison Lynn and Christine Roscoe continue their efforts in getting our volunteers placed. Thank you, ladies, for keeping us all where we need to be.
Speaking of volunteers, we need some for our last two events of the year. Please dig deep and plan to help out during at least ONE of these times. Many hand make little work and the kids love to see their parents at the school, helping.
Back by popular demand:
(#1) PTO YARD SALE
Saturday 5/30/09 from 8:00am - 12:00 noon
Volunteers are needed Friday night to help set up the tables & Saturday from 7:30 am - 1:30 pm. Contact Jo-Anne Archambault at 886-2709 or sable61999@aol.com or Michelle Henninger at 930-4826 or Henninger_ainscough@comcast.net to volunteer or donate.
(#2) Field Day
Tuesday, 6/16/09 All day!
Parent volunteers are needed on the field from 8:45 am - 11:00 am and for the Bar-b-que from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. In the best interest of the students, we are requesting only parents volunteer this year.
To help with Field day, please contact Kristine Tingley at mktingley@myfairpoint.net or Lori Gilcreast at 883-3914 or Lgilcreast@aol.com.
Again, please consider helping at these events, and thank you. Your effort is what makes this organization work. Your presence is what makes this community strong.
Currently, there is also a $change drive$ going on in the school to help fund the PTO sponsored lunch during Field Day. So far, we've collected $116.00 toward our food bill. We feed around 500 people that day. Time to clean out the car and under the couch. We can use those dusty pennies and dimes right now! Send the change in with your child or add it yourself to the jar in the office labeled "Field Day".
Moving right along…
The Defenders Baseball Team (formerly Nashua Pride) is hosting a Game night on Friday, 6/12/09 at Historic Holman Stadium. The tickets will be sold through the school for $3.00 each and festivities will include fireworks. Watch for ticket orders in the backpacks. Maybe we can get a nice rendition of "Take Me out to the Ballgame" together. I'll lipsync through. People pay me not to sing...seriously.
Our final "meeting" of the year is the Ice Cream Social on 6/9/09. We will be handing out information of what we plan for next year. This free social evening is a great way to get together as a group one last time. Some of us are moving on. Some of us are stepping up. Regardless, all of us are important in the lives of our children, our friends, our school and community. We'd love to see you there. Hey, it's free ice cream. if you need another reason, well that's just scary!
Next week is Volunteer Appreciation week (5/17 - 5/23) so I'm gonna be the first to say...
YOU VOLUNTEERS ROCK!
I have never been part of an organization with so many wonderfully caring, hard-working, creative people like this one. I've seen people work tirelessly to get something done last minute just so the students can have a special event or the teachers can have a little extra support. It's an amazing bonus to live in a community so filled with this kind of generosity of spirit. I have to thank you, every volunteer, every family who grins and bears it (including mine) when it's crunch time and you're not going to make dinner tonight or ferry someone to their game because you’ve made a commitment and you're sticking to it. You are appreciated! You are more than needed, more than wanted. You are the special prize in the cereal box that makes the day brighter for everyone!
Don't you forget it!
Thank you.
Also, thanks to our teacher representatives, cultural enrichment representatives, and the administrative staff for their support! We look forward to the 2009-2010 school year.
Have a great day!
Sincerely,
Kim Petit Secretary Broad St PTO 881-7838
