Broad St School PTO

President's Message

Dear PTO Members:

Welcome to PTO Updates!  Get the skinny on volunteer opportunities HERE!

Can this Election Year be almost over already?  YES...and not a moment too soon!

To wave a fond adieu and a cherry "Bye Bye" to the negative hype and mud slinging, the PTO is planning to feed hungry, possibly disgruntled and irritated voters at our:

ELECTION DAY BAKE SALE!

BUT...we need your help to coax back the smiles from weary voters.  We need volunteers to man our Bake Sale table and help folks realize they are not alone in their hunger.

To sign up for a time slot during the Election Day Bake Sale, please e-mail Jo-Anne Archambault at sable61999@aol.com or call at 886-2709.

In other news:

The latest Box Tops Contest, co-chaired by Becky Quigley and Chris Roscoe, earned approx $500.00.  We will be running another contest later in the year but Box Tops can be turned in at any time, either through the classrooms or in the collection box in the school office.  Be sure to check for expiration dates.  Broad Street School doesn't get credit for expired Box Tops.

The Fall Festival earned $4454.71 after expenses.  This was better than last year!  The Chrysler Test Drive alone Earned $370.00 (I drove the PT Cruiser cause I always wanted to).  Thanks you to all the parents and teachers who volunteered their time and effort to make this a fun day for everyone.  We couldn't have done it without you.

The Cross Country program will be added as a PTO committee for next year.  Races results for the 10/18/08 Cross Country 2K and 3K race can be found on the web at http://broadstpto.org/2k3krace2008.htm. Special thanks to Joe Nardone, Laura Fleury and Kim Petit for managing the teams this year.

The Broad Street PTO is looking for a Chairperson to manage "Skate Night".  Skate Night is a social event held at roller Kingdom in Tyngsboro, MA twice a year.  It is an affordable family event much enjoyed by our students and an easy 3 hours of volunteer time per event.  For more information about how Skate Night is managed, please contact Kim Petit at 881-7838 or kmpenterprise@comcast.net.

The Fall Catalog Fundraiser has begun and will run until 11/3/08.  Delivery will be in time for the holidays.  Thank you, Lori Gilcreast, for explaining the “rules” to the students.

Spirit wear order forms will be available soon.  The sale runs 11/3 - 11/14.  We are offering zip-up red hoodies this year (new).  Thank, you Dan Ober, for managing spirit wear sales.   We rely on you to keep us covered (Hey, didn't I use that joke last year?  Sorry Dan, I couldn't resist).

The Penny Pickers are hosting a penny drive at Broad Street School.  The PTO has asked the 5th grade to be classroom collectors every Fri. for November and the first Fri. of December.  Thank you, Jo-Anne Archambault, for heading up this easy way to give back to the community.

Back By Popular Demand...

The HOLLY DAYS CRAFT FAIR

(Ok…we called it something else but it was the same event.)

We are bringing back the vendor event that vendors adore.  Of course, behind any successful event are many hands making busy work...or some other proverb I can’t remember.  Anyway, here are the committees where we need your help:

Crafter/Vendor Space Rental:  Lori Gilcreast is doing her best to get talented Nashuans to showcase their products in our school.  If you know a crafter/vendor or you ARE a crafter/vendor and would like to work the event on 12/6/08, we want to know about it.  Parents naturally get first dibs at the Holly Days Craft Fair but time is running short.  Please contact Lori Gilcreast at 883-3914 or lgilcreast25@comcast.net to reserve your space and get your vendor packet.

Vendors and crafters are responsible for donating an item to our raffle table.  The PTO is also looking into "theme" baskets donated by classrooms.  Information about this idea is coming...be patient.

The "Holiday Shop" is our answer to the age old question.  What do you do with kids who get bored shopping the Craft Fair before you are?  Why, you get them interested in something else so they leave you alone, of course!  We’re offering an area where children can shop for a gift packet, assemble and personalize the gift and get it wrapped and ready for Christmas.  What do we need?  Adult “kids” who love to do arts and crafts and who can help little fingers create memories for the ones they love.

And for the mini-Emeril Lagasse, we are offering a sugar-cookie decorating station in the cafeteria so parents may enjoy lunch in peace while little ones create their own dessert.

To help with the "Holiday Shop" or "Cookies-by-Kids" please contact Kim Petit at 881-7838 or kmpenterprise@comcast.net.

We will be offering a soup and sandwich lunch from the school cafeteria but we need a Chairperson to manage the details.  This volunteer will be working closely with the School lunch staff so that proper procedures are followed.  You never go it alone as a volunteer so Come-On-Down!

During the Craft Fair we will also have donation boxes for the Salvation Army.  We have been asked to collect 60 child coats to distribute among the Nashua community.  Please consider donating your gently used coats to the Salvation Army during the Craft Fair.

Finally, we will need parents to hang posters of this event around the city of Nashua.  If you are interested in helping "spread the word", please contact Kim Petit at 881-7838 or kmpenterprise@comcast.net.

And that is it!  That's the skinny.  If it were any skinnier, I wouldn't have bothered writing it down.

Your time is appreciated and your company is welcome.  Together, we are a highly effective team of parents and teachers.  Thank you.

Sincerely,

Kim Petit
